Landslide Mapping in Western North Carolina

Jennifer Bauer will conduct a 3-hour course on using the landslide hazard maps in Western North Carolina. These three part maps were created by the North Carolina Geological Survey Landslide Hazard Mapping Team, of which Jennifer was a member. They cover Buncombe, Henderson, Watauga, and Macon Counties.

Note: Professional development hours have been approved through our partnership with A-B Tech Civil Engineering department as an approved sponsor (of continuing education) by the NC Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors

Seminar topics will include:

  • Overview of the landslide mapping program and three map series
  • Where to find and how to use these maps to identify landslide prone locations, typical geotechnical aspects of landslide sites in WNC
  • How a professional geologist can assist engineers and their clients in making informed decisions.

Bring your own laptop because we will have a hands-on demonstration of how to use the online maps.

This workshop will benefit civil, structural, environmental, and geotechnical engineers, as well as surveyors, architects, landscape architects, land planners, and builders. This counts toward continuing education credits for Civil Engineers and Land Surveyor, North Carolina Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors approval.
